Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) president Samir Xaud has confirmed that he intends to begin negotiations over extending Carlo Ancelotti’s contract, signalling the start of discussions about keeping the Italian in charge beyond the 2026 World Cup.

Ancelotti’s current deal runs until the end of the tournament, but the 65-year-old recently expressed interest in remaining with the Selecao until 2030. Xaud welcomed the comments and said both parties are aligned on building a long-term partnership.

“I see this conversation in a positive light,” Xaud said on Wednesday. “He already said in an interview that it depends on both sides. I always believe in building a working relationship. Everything is there for it to succeed.”

CBF aiming for early clarity on Brazil’s future

According to reports in Brazil, the CBF plan to formally open talks at the start of next year. Their intention is to secure Ancelotti’s future before he leads Brazil into the 2026 World Cup, ensuring stability regardless of how the team performs in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Xaud believes long-term clarity is essential as Brazil begin preparations for a tournament they hope will end a 24-year wait for a sixth world title. The CBF president remains confident that negotiations will progress smoothly.

Ancelotti tasked with restoring Brazil’s global dominance

Ancelotti took charge in May, ending an 18-year club coaching streak to take on his first national team role. He has focused on reviving Brazil’s identity and steering them back toward the summit of international football.

His primary objective is to deliver Brazil’s first World Cup since 2002. The Selecao have not reached a final in the past two decades, with their best finish being fourth place on home soil in 2014.

Despite this, the CBF believe Ancelotti has already brought renewed stability and direction to the national team, making contract security a key priority.

CBF believe continuity will strengthen 2026 preparation

With major fixtures approaching in 2025 and early planning for the World Cup in full swing, the federation wants to lock in Ancelotti’s future early to avoid speculation and keep players focused.

The feeling within the CBF is that a long-term commitment from both sides would allow Brazil to build momentum with confidence as they work toward lifting the trophy in 2026.
