Bologna are looking to begin their Coppa Italia title defence on a positive note as they host Parma in a round of 16 clash on Thursday.

The hosts are usually solid at home but will be extra fired up following a disappointing defeat in their last Serie A fixture. They should get the better of Parma, who have been erratic lately.

As reigning Coppa Italia champions, Bologna drew a bye in the previous round and are set to make their first appearance in this year's competition. However, they do not head into this clash on the best note, having suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Cremonese in a Monday night Serie A fixture.

Manager Vincenzo Italiano will consider that result a minor blip as Bologna had been on a 12-match unbeaten run across all competitions prior to that defeat. They had also won their previous two home matches and will be targeting a swift return to winning ways.

Bologna have looked sharp going forward this season, scoring over 1.5 goals in three of their last four matches across all competitions. Their last three fixtures have also produced over 2.5 goals.

Parma needed penalties before seeing off Serie B side Spezia in the previous round of the Coppa Italia. Goals from Sascha Britschgi and Mateo Pellegrino earned them a 2-2 draw in regulation time before claiming the upper hand in the shootout.

Things have been a bit erratic for Parma lately, having picked up just two wins in their last nine matches and suffering a 2-0 home defeat to Udinese in their last Serie A fixture. Carlos Cuesta's team are also winless in five of their last six away matches but did earn a 2-1 victory at Verona in their previous fixture on the road.

Parma often struggle to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last five matches. Four of those fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals.
