Belgium are on the brink of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they host Liechtenstein in their final Group J fixture in the UEFA qualifiers.

The Belgians need a win to qualify and will be pleased to have their final game on home soil. They have had a few one-sided results in this campaign and should be too strong for the visitors, who are winless in the group.

Belgium News

Belgium were held to a 1-1 away draw by Kazakhstan in their previous qualifying fixture. They fell behind early in the contest and struck back through Hans Vanaken, but could not secure the win.

Manager Rudi Garcia will be disappointed not to have won, but the result maintains Belgium's unbeaten record in the group. Sitting two points clear at the top of the table, they remain on course to qualify as a win on Tuesday secures a place in the tournament.

Belgium have had their share of one-sided wins in the group, with 6-0 victories over Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein among their results. They often find their rhythm after the break, scoring four or more goals in both matches.

Liechtenstein News

Liechtenstein travel to Liege off the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Wales in their previous fixture. They attempted to frustrate the visitors for much of the contest but eventually succumbed to a second-half effort from Jordan James.

The result maintains Liechtenstein’s poor record in the qualifiers, having lost all seven of their matches. Beyond the qualifiers, Konrad Funfstuck’s team are currently on an 11-match losing run across all competitions.

Liechtenstein are usually out of their depth in campaigns like this and have suffered some heavy defeats on their travels. A 4-0 defeat to Kazakhstan is among their away results, while they were also beaten 5-0 by North Macedonia.

Head to Head

The only previous meeting between both teams was the reverse fixture, with Belgium easing to a 6-0 away victory.

Verdict

Tuesday's clash is likely to be a mismatch and given the result in the reverse fixture, a handicap bet for Belgium could be considered here. The Belgians often come alive after the break, and having scored five second-half goals in the last meeting, a similar pattern could be considered.

Two of Belgium’s last three home matches have produced over 2.5 goals after the break, and Tuesday's clash is likely to serve up a repeat.
