A thrilling encounter could be on the cards when Barcelona host PSG in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Both teams are enjoying a fine start to the season and picked up wins on match day one. There is plenty of quality on display in both attacks, and Wednesday's clash could be set to serve up goals.

Barcelona claimed a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in their opening fixture in the Champions League. They were made to work hard for the win, with a second-half brace from Marcus Rashford earning them all three points.

The Catalans have been imperious this season and are unbeaten in eight matches across all competitions. Hansi Flick's team have picked up seven wins on this run, including a 2-1 home victory over Real Sociedad in a Spanish La Liga fixture last weekend.

Robert Lewandowski is beginning to find his groove and has scored four times in the last five matches across all competitions. The striker leads an attack that has scored first in two of the last three home matches. Three of their last five fixtures have also produced more goals after the break.

PSG were also victorious in their opening fixture as they began their title defence with a 4-0 home victory over Atalanta. They had four different scorers, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Goncalo Ramos among the goals.

The Parisians’ overall form has been solid this season, and they will travel to Spain off the back of a 2-0 Ligue 1 home victory over Auxerre. However, their only defeat this season came in their last away fixture, a 1-0 loss to Marseille in the league.

PSG have plenty of attacking quality and like the hosts, tend to leave things till after the break. Two of the last three away matches for Luis Enrique’s team have produced more goals in the second half.

Barcelona have five wins while PSG have earned four victories, with four draws in the last 13 matches. Both teams won the away leg when they met in the knockout stage of the Champions League in 2024, with the Catalans winning 3-2 in France while the French side claimed a 4-1 victory in Spain.

Barcelona are looking confident at the moment, and having scored first in two of their last three home matches, could be set to grab the opening goal here. Lewandowski could also be tipped to get on the score sheet, having been on target four times in the last five matches for the hosts.

Both teams have a knack for leaving things late and having served up more second-half goals in their last two meetings, a repeat could be considered here.
