Aston Villa are aiming to maintain their recent good form when they host Young Boys in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.

The Villans have impressed lately and look almost unstoppable in front of their fans. They should have too much quality for the Swiss side, who are unconvincing on their travels.

Aston Villa News

Aston Villa are enjoying a solid league phase campaign, having claimed three wins from their four matches. They earned a 2-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in their previous fixture, with Ian Maatsen and Donyell Malen getting the goals.

That result is part of Aston Villa’s recent good form, having won eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions, including a 2-1 victory at Leeds United last weekend. Villa Park has also been a fortress for Unai Emery's side, who have won their last six home matches.

Aston Villa often dominate at home, scoring in both halves in four of their last five matches at Villa Park and claiming a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth last time out. They also tend to maintain their discipline at the back and have kept clean sheets in their last three fixtures in front of their fans.

Young Boys News

Young Boys’ league phase campaign has been a bit erratic so far, with two wins and as many defeats in their four matches. Gerardo Seoane’s team fell to a 4-0 loss at PAOK in their previous fixture.

The good news for Young Boys is that they will head into this clash off the back of two straight domestic victories, winning 4-1 at St Gallen before a 5-0 home triumph over Winterthur. However, their away form has been inconsistent, with two wins and as many defeats in their last five matches on the road.

As evidenced by the result as PAOK, Young Boys have a tendency to suffer heavy defeats. They have lost 4-1 to Panathinaikos in the league phase, while a 5-0 thrashing at Lausanne is also among their recent away results.

Head to Head

The only previous meeting between Aston Villa and Young Boys came in the league phase of last season’s UEFA Champions League. The Villans eased to a 3-0 away victory.

Verdict

Aston Villa will come into this clash full of confidence, having earned a number of one-sided wins lately. Given the result in the last meeting with Young Boys, the hosts could be backed in the handicap market.

The Villans often dominate in front of their fans, and having scored in both halves in four of their last five home matches, a repeat is expected. Having also earned a win to nil in their last three home matches, a similar outcome could be on the cards.
