Arsenal welcome Olympiacos to Emirates Stadium on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League as they look to build on a win in their opening fixture.

The Greek side’s overall form has been solid this season, but a clash against the Gunners represents a step up in quality of opponents. The hosts have the superior quality and should come out on top here.

Arsenal began their campaign in the league phase with a 2-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao. Following a drab first half, the Gunners came to life after the break, with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard earning them the win.
 
It has been a solid enough start to the season for Arsenal, who are unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. Mikel Arteta's team have picked up six wins on this run, including a 2-1 Premier League victory at Newcastle United last weekend.

Arsenal are also solid at the back and have kept clean sheets in five of their last eight matches. They have also won by two clear goals in three of their last five matches, while three of those five fixtures have also produced over 1.5 goals in the second half.

Olympiacos failed to get their league phase campaign off to a winning start as they were held to a 0-0 home draw by Pafos in their opening fixture. They had plenty of possession and created chances, but were wasteful in attack. 

The good news for Olympiacos is that they have remained unbeaten across all competitions this season and will be keen to get a win in Europe. Jose Luis Mendilibar's team will travel to the Emirates off the back of a 3-2 Greek Super League victory over Levadiakos last weekend.

While Olympiacos generally have quality in attack, the result against Pafos shows they may struggle against disciplined backlines. Three of their last five matches across all competitions have produced over 1.5 goals in the second half.

Arsenal and Olympiacos have picked up six wins each from 12 previous matches. However, the Gunners did the double when both teams met in the Europa League back in 2021, winning 3-1 in Greece before a 1-0 home victory in the second leg. 

Verdict

Arsenal boast the superior quality here and should get the better of Olympiacos, who found things difficult in their opening game. The hosts have won by two clear goals in three of their last five matches and could be backed in the handicap market.

The Gunners have also won to nil in three of their last five matches, and a repeat is on the cards here. With both teams often coming alive after the break, the second half could be set to produce over 1.5 goals.
