Arsenal and Newcastle United continue their preparations for the new season as they meet in a friendly on Sunday.

Both teams had contrasting fortunes in their opening preseason games, while their outlook in the transfer window has also been dissimilar. The Gunners appear to be the more settled side at the moment and should have the upper hand here.

Arsenal began their preseason campaign with a 1-0 victory over Serie A side AC Milan. Bukayo Saka’s second-half effort proved to be the difference for the Gunners, who were dominant throughout and could have won by more.

It has been a busy transfer window for Arsenal, with Martin Zubimendi, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke all arriving this summer. They are also set to end their long-standing striker problem after agreeing a deal for prolific Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres.

Goals are generally not a problem for Arsenal, who have scored in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions. Mikel Arteta’s team have conceded in seven fixtures on this run, while seven of those fixtures have also produced over 2.5 goals.

Newcastle United News

Newcastle United suffered a 4-0 defeat to Scottish side Celtic in their opening preseason fixture. The result carries on their form from the end of last season as they have lost their last three matches across all competitions.

It has been an underwhelming summer for Newcastle United, with Antonio Cedero and Anthony Elanga the only arrivals so far. There is also the added distraction from the potential departure of star striker Alexander Isak, who has told the club he wants to leave.

Despite the absence of Isak on this tour, Newcastle United can still hold their own going forward, with Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, and William Osula. However, some defensive improvement is needed, given the result against Celtic, while six of their last 10 matches across all competitions have produced over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal have the historical advantage in this fixture, but struggled against Newcastle last season. The Gunners claimed a 1-0 victory in the last meeting in May, but were beaten three times by the Magpies in the English Premier League and EFL Cup

Newcastle United may have gotten the better of Arsenal last season, but appear out of sorts at the moment and will be distracted by the Isak situation. The Gunners looked sharp against AC Milan and should have the upper hand in this one.

Arsenal were wasteful in midweek and will be keen to set things right against Newcastle United, who can also hold their own in attack. Both teams are expected to score here, while over 2.5 goals could also be on the cards, with the Gunners seeing a similar outcome in seven of their last 10 matches.
