Angola vs Zimbabwe Tips & Preview - Palancas Negras to come alive in Group B
- Angola and Zimbabwe are recovering from opening AFCON defeats.
- Angola boasts better recent form with strong pre-tournament wins.
- Zimbabwe struggling for consistency, winless in seven of last eight matches.
Angola vs Zimbabwe
Angola battle Zimbabwe at the Stade de Marrakech in their second AFCON Group B clash, with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats in their opening fixtures.
The Angolans’ overall form has been decent lately, and they will be confident of getting back on track in this one. They should get the better of Zimbabwe, who have been off colour lately.
Angola News
Angola come into this clash off the back of a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in their opening fixture. They fell behind early in the first half and looked to be headed for a draw after Show's equaliser, but went on to concede the winner.
Having been unbeaten in six of their previous nine matches across all competitions, Angola will be confident of bouncing back from that result. The Palancas Negras claimed two straight victories in the build-up to the tournament, including a 4-1 friendly victory over Mozambique.
Angola have no problems going forward and have scored in their last three matches. However, Patrice Beaumelle's team have also conceded in all three fixtures, which have produced over 2.5 goals.
Zimbabwe News
Zimbabwe are also coming off a defeat after falling 2-1 to Egypt in their opening fixture. They failed to build on Prince Dube’s opener midway through the first half and were breached after the break.
That result is part of a recent poor run for Zimbabwe, who are winless in seven of their last eight matches across all competitions. Mario Marinica's team have lost five of the last seven fixtures on this run.
Zimbabwe often struggle defensively and are without a clean sheet in their last three matches. However, they have scored in all three fixtures, which have also produced over 2.5 goals.
Head to Head
Zimbabwe have four wins while Angola have picked up three victories, with two draws in the last nine matches. The last meeting came in the 2013 AFCON qualifiers, with the Angolans claiming a 2-0 home victory.
Verdict
While both teams are coming off opening day defeats, Angola’s overall form has looked a bit more solid lately. They should get the better of Zimbabwe, who have lost five of their last seven matches.
Both teams have been unconvincing at the back lately and could be backed to score here. With Angola's last three matches producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat could also be considered.
