Reims begin their quest for a quick return to the topflight when they travel to Amiens for their opening fixture of the French Ligue 2 season.

Both teams will be targeting a strong start, but looked off colour in preseason. However, the hosts often do well in front of their fans and should do enough to avoid defeat here.

Amiens had an unremarkable campaign last season as they finished 11th in Ligue 2. They also looked off colour in preseason, with no wins in their last four matches and suffering a 4-2 defeat at Bastia in their previous fixture.

The good news for Amiens is that they found some form towards the end of last season, winning three of their final five Ligue 2 matches. Those three wins all came at home, and manager Omar Daf will be keen to channel those performances on Monday night.

Amiens score often but tend to leave things late, with four of their last six goals coming after the break. However, their defence needs plenty of work, having failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions.

Reims will be targeting a quick return to the topflight after their disappointing 2024/25 campaign ended in relegation. They did show flashes of quality last term, reaching the final of the Coupe De France before losing to PSG.

Things remained erratic in preseason for Reims, who claimed three wins and suffered as many defeats in six matches, although they did end with a 2-1 victory over Gamba Osaka. One thing that plagued them throughout last season was a poor record on the road, and they are winless in their last four competitive away matches.

Like the hosts, Reims also like to leave things late, with six of their last nine goals coming in the second half. Defending remains a problem for Karel Garaerts’ team, who are without a clean sheet in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions.
