Inter Milan will look to put their recent struggles behind them when they travel to Ajax on matchday one of the UEFA Champions League.

In contrast, the Dutch side have made a strong start to the season and will aim to transmit that form into this competition. Both teams have shown attacking quality and could be set to produce goals on Wednesday.

Ajax head into their Champions League opener off the back of a 3-1 victory over Zwolle in a Dutch Eredivisie fixture last weekend. Mika Godts netted a brace after Davy Klaassen opened the scoring in the first half.

That result maintains Ajax’s solid start to the season as they remain unbeaten after five matches. Things have been even better at home for Johnny Heitinga’s team, who have won all three of their matches in front of their fans.

Inter Milan are coming off a 4-3 defeat at Juventus in a Serie A fixture last weekend. Hakan Calhanoglu netted a brace while Marcus Thuram was also on target in a losing effort for the Nerazzurri.

That was the second straight defeat for Inter Milan, who are having a tough start to the season. The Italian giants are still coming to terms with the system and tactics under new manager Cristian Chivu.

One positive for Inter Milan is that the goals have continued to flow, having scored in their three matches so far, all of which have produced over 2.5 goals. However, they remain unconvincing at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last two matches.

Ajax and Inter Milan have been a bit unconvincing at the back lately, and given their attacking quality, both teams could be backed to score here. With all three of the Nerazzurri’s matches this season producing over 2.5 goals, a repeat could be considered.

Inter Milan are struggling at the moment and head into this clash with two straight defeats. Ajax will view Wednesday’s clash as an opportunity to get one over on the Italians and, having maintained an unbeaten record this season, can earn a win or draw at home.
