The duel between France and Poland will greatly influence the standings in Group D and the further course of the bracket.

Will one of the tournament favorites France recover after a shocking loss to Israel, or will the host nation continue its perfect run?

After two opening wins over Belgium and Slovenia, France delivered a negative surprise to their fans in Spodek Arena.

Les Bleus were defeated in the third round by Israel 82:69.

Israel is a solid team that should not be underestimated, but France was a huge favorite in this matchup.

A 7:0 run at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter led by Elie Okobo made it look like France had broken the game open, but then real troubles began.

From that point on, France could not score anymore, while Israel answered with a decisive 23:4 run to secure an unreachable lead.

First place in the group is still within reach for France, but now it will also depend on the results of other matches.

Poland is once again proving to be a potential dark horse after finishing fourth at the previous EuroBasket.

After three games, they hold a perfect record.

On Sunday, they defeated Iceland 84:75, in a tougher game than expected.

With three minutes left to play, Iceland had a three-point lead, but the hosts closed the game with a dominant 14:2 run.

Captain Mateusz Ponitka once again led his team with an all-around performance of 18-8-8, while Jordan Loyd shined with 26 points, proving to be a worthy replacement for A. J. Slaughter, who had previously played as a naturalized player.

This French team does not play a beautiful style and, given the many absences, does not have the same offensive potential as some previous squads.

They will have to rely on defense and aggression in this match, with special attention on Poland’s best players Mateusz Ponitka and Jordan Loyd.
