EuroBasket Group C Preview

The host of Group C at EuroBasket 2025 will be Cyprus, with all games played in Limassol at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center, which has a capacity of 8,000 seats.

Alongside the host, who are complete outsiders, the group also features defending champions Spain, Italy, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia.

Bosnia and Herzegovina - The goal is to reach the second phase

This will be Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 11th EuroBasket appearance. Their best result was 8th place in their debut back in 1993. Since then, they have not managed to pass the group stage. That remains the main goal and dream for this generation, led by NBA center Jusuf Nurkic and EuroLeague star Dzanan Musa.

Italy - A potential landmine

They might not have the necessary quality and depth for the highest finish, but they will definitely be a tough opponent for any team in the tournament. The energetic and passionate Gianmarco Pozzecco has a squad that blends experience (Gallinari, Melli, Fontecchio, Ricci) with youth (Spagnolo, Procida), supported by naturalized guard Darius Thompson, who will bring stability at the point guard position. Advancing from the group should not be a problem, but for something more, they will need everything to click perfectly.

Greece - Another attempt for Giannis Antetokounmpo

So far, Greece has not managed to build a team around Giannis Antetokounmpo capable of fighting for medals. Shooting has always been their main weakness, and it will likely remain so, since apart from Kostas Sloukas, Kostas Papanikolaou, and Tyler Dorsey, they don’t have many reliable shooters. We’ll see if the coaching aura of Vassilis Spanoulis can bring something special to a Greek team that has been waiting for a EuroBasket gold medal for 20 years.

Cyprus - Absolute underdog

The group host is by far the weakest team in the tournament, without a doubt. The group composition is such that they cannot realistically expect even a close game, and their main goal will be to avoid blowouts like those in the preparation period. Most of their players come from domestic clubs, and there are no names recognizable to the wider European basketball audience.

Spain - Championship DNA

Even though they will be weakened by the absence of Lorenzo Brown, who was a key piece in their gold medal run three years ago, Spain is never a team to underestimate. On paper, the roster does not look as impressive, but this team has an incredible aura and a championship gene. Santi Aldama is the only NBA player on the squad, while the rest come mostly from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and other ACB clubs, with the exception of Juancho Hernangomez, who is playing successfully for Panathinaikos.

Georgia - Knockout stage a realistic target

Georgia will likely battle Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 4th spot in the group and a place in the Round of 16. For years, their biggest problem has been the imbalance between their inside and outside game, something they will try to fix with naturalized American Kamar Baldwin. Scoring responsibility will fall on Toko Shengelia and Sandro Mamukelashvili, while Goga Bitadze is expected to handle most of the dirty work

Group C Ranking

This group will be exciting to follow as there is no clear favorite. I expect Spain, Greece, Italy, and Georgia to qualify for the Round of 16.

If I had to bet on the group winner, I would go with the reigning European champions, Spain.
