EuroBasket Group B Preview

The 2025 European Basketball Championship is bringing basketball fever across the continent, and Group B, hosted in Tampere, Finland, promises to deliver serious action.

Six national teams - hosts Finland, along with Germany, Lithuania, Montenegro, Great Britain, and Sweden - will battle it out in what looks to be one of the most unpredictable groups of the tournament.

Finland - The pride of the hosts

Backed by a passionate home crowd and led by NBA star Lauri Markkanen, Finland will look to make the most of their home advantage. With a tightly-knit squad and strong chemistry, they’ll be aiming to punch above their weight on familiar ground.

Germany - Champions with a target

As reigning World Cup winners, Germany enter the tournament with high expectations. If stars like Dennis Schröder and the Wagner brothers are on the roster, they’ll be one of the top contenders. Disciplined, physical, and deadly when focused.

Lithuania - Tradition demands success

Basketball runs deep in Lithuania, and the pressure to deliver is always high. With veteran big man Jonas Valanciunas anchoring the team, they’ll be looking to return to the medal rounds after recent disappointments.

Montenegro  - The quiet threat

Montenegro might not make headlines, but they’re not to be underestimated. With Nikola Vucevic providing strength in the paint and a team full of experience, they have what it takes to surprise the favorites.

Great Britain - Searching for Consistency

Great Britain remains a work in progress. Athletic and physical, they have individual talent, but turning that into wins has been a challenge. Still, on any given night, they’re capable of upsetting the balance.

Sweden - The Underdogs With a Punch

Sweden may enter as the lowest-ranked team in the group, but that makes them dangerous. With no pressure and a nothing-to-lose attitude, they could be the disruptors that throw Group B into chaos.

Group B Ranking

Just like in Group A, I don’t see anyone here seriously challenging Germany, who are coming in with the strongest generation in their history.

As for the four teams likely to reach the knockout stage, alongside Germany it should be Lithuania, Finland, and Montenegro - with the battle for third place between those three promising to be a tight and exciting one.
