Estonia vs Turkey Preview

Estonia and Turkey meet in Riga on September 1 in a EuroBasket 2025 Group A matchup that could prove decisive for their tournament momentum.

Estonia enter the contest looking to build on flashes of promise, while Turkey approach the game in strong form, eager to reinforce their status as one of the group’s leading contenders.

Estonia Form & Team News

Estonia began EuroBasket 2025 with a tough 98-64 loss to Serbia, where the champions’ physicality and shooting left little room for an upset. Henri Drell led the way with 11 points, but Estonia were clearly second best.

In their second outing, they pushed co-hosts Latvia all the way before narrowly falling 72-70 in a spirited performance. Kristian Kullamaee and Artur Konontsuk were bright spots, showing Estonia could compete at a higher level.

The reward came in the third game, as Estonia defeated Czechia 89-75 with strong backing from more than 8,000 traveling fans. Kullamaee again led the charge, while Mathias Tass offered valuable support inside.

Injuries remain a hurdle, with Maik Kotsar out before the tournament and captain Siim-Sander Vene sidelined. Even so, the younger core has injected energy and belief, keeping Estonia in the fight for progression.

Turkey Form & Team News

Turkey opened their EuroBasket 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, cruising past Portugal 95-54. Their depth and athleticism were on full display as they controlled the game from start to finish, with multiple players scoring in double figures.

In the second round, Turkey backed it up with another convincing performance, defeating Czechia 92-70. Their balanced offense and aggressive defense again set the tone, showing why they are considered one of the group favorites.

The third game brought an even bigger statement as Turkey overpowered Latvia 101-76 in Riga. Alperen Sengun and Furkan Korkmaz led the scoring, while the team’s perimeter shooting and fast pace proved too much for the hosts.

On a six-game winning streak stretching back before the tournament, Turkey look like one of the most in-form sides at EuroBasket. With a deep roster and strong chemistry, they have firmly established themselves as contenders to top Group A.

Head to Head

These two teams have not met in more than 30 years, with their last encounter dating back to EuroBasket 1993, when Estonia claimed a 77-74 victory.

Verdict

Turkey are clear favorites with more depth, form, and scoring options. Estonia have shown fight against Latvia and Czechia, but over four quarters it’s hard to see them keeping pace.

With the spread at 17.5, Turkey still look likely to cover, as their recent wins have all been by comfortable double-digit margins
