Cyprus vs Georgia Preview

As one of the EuroBasket hosts, Cyprus has not shown that they are worthy of being at this tournament.

Can they at least improve their impression in the upcoming game, or will they, as expected, be an easy prey for Georgia?

It was known even before EuroBasket started that Cyprus would be the weakest team in the tournament and that they were participants only because of hosting rights.

They are not known as a basketball nation, and it did not help that they ended up in a very tough group.

In the first three games they suffered heavy defeats, and the toughest was the most recent one against Spain with a score of 91:47.

Spain did not leave any room for surprises, and after only 20 minutes the winner was clear when the scoreboard showed 41:17.

In every segment of the game, Cyprus was inferior compared to their opponent, and the only player who stood out in scoring was the naturalized American Darral Willis, who finished with 16 points.

After a fantastic win in their first game of the tournament against the reigning European champion Spain, Georgia in the next two games did not have the strength to seriously challenge Italy and Greece.

After a 78:62 loss to Italy, they were beaten even more convincingly by Greece, 94:53.

The main reason for such defeats is the very poor health situation in the team.

Team captain Toko Shengelia, due to well-known issues, spent only 4 minutes on the court, and NBA center Goga Bitadze missed the last game.

It is also obvious that Georgia coach Aleksandar Dzikic is managing the minutes of his best players considering the situation, and Georgia will throw all their cards on the last two games, where wins against Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina would, for the first time in history, take them to the next EuroBasket round.

We will see how Georgia reacts after two heavy defeats where they realistically had no chance for surprises.

This win has already been written down for them, and such games are often the hardest to play. I believe there will be some nervousness in their play, which will affect their efficiency and shooting percentages.

I expect a tough game with a lower number of points.
