Bayern vs Ulm Game 5 Preview

After a routine win for Bayern at the Ratiopharm Arena in Game 4, the series heads back to Munich for the final showdown.

Can Bayern defend their home court and claim a second consecutive title, or will Ulm pull off an upset and take the long road to the trophy?

Bayern Form & Team News

Bayern managed to bounce back after a shocking loss in Game 3 and reclaimed the advantage with a 67–53 win in Ulm.

The Bavarian side adapted better to what turned out to be a gritty, low-scoring battle. After an even first half, Bayern took control in the third quarter, edging it 17–12.

That stretch already hinted that the visitors were taking over, and early in the final period, it became clear. Bayern shifted into a higher gear, while the hosts had no response.

With a stunning 22–2 run, Gordie Herbert’s team completely broke the game open and secured a decisive Game 5 on home court.

Shabazz Napier led the way with 15 points, Devin Booker added 11, and Andreas Obst finished with 10.

Ulm Form & Team News

Everything was set for a big celebration at Ratiopharm Arena. The fans brought the energy with an impressive choreography and loud support, but unfortunately for them, Ulm delivered their worst performance of the playoffs at the worst possible time.

Now, they'll have to take the tougher road if they want to lift the trophy.

Despite struggling offensively, Ulm remained within reach after three quarters, but a dreadful start to the final period ended any hopes of winning this game.

A miserable 3-point shooting night (8/38) combined with an almost non-existent inside game (9/26) left them exposed. In nearly every aspect, they were outplayed by Bayern.

Game 3 hero Justinian Jessup had a nightmare performance, missing all nine of his field goal attempts.
Other Ulm players didn’t fare much better, with barely anyone deserving a passing grade.

To make matters worse, Ulm went into this game without Noa Essengue, who traveled to the U.S. for the draft and won’t be available for the season finale either.

Head to Head

This will be the seventh and final matchup between Bayern and Ulm this season, with the series currently tied at 3–3.

Verdict

All four previous games in the series have ended with low scores, and I don’t expect that to change in the upcoming clash.

The style of play has been noticeably more controlled, with both defenses stepping up their intensity. Shooting percentages have dropped significantly, and both teams have struggled with turnovers — a clear sign of the pressure that comes with such a high-stakes series.
