Egypt vs Ivory Coast Tips & Preview - Elephants to continue title defence
- Ivory Coast and Egypt set for AFCON quarter-final clash.
- Both teams are unbeaten; Ivory Coast showed strong form with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso.
- Egypt overcame Benin in extra time, highlighting defensive concerns.
Egypt vs Ivory Coast
The defending champions seem to be growing into the tournament and will come into this clash full of confidence. They should do enough to qualify, as the North Africans have had a few nervy moments in the competition.
Egypt News
Egypt were made to work hard and needed extra time to overcome Benin in the round of 16. Marwen Attia’s second-half effort was cancelled out deep into injury time before Yasser Ibrahim and Mohamed Salah struck in extra time.
That was the second straight game for Egypt that ended in a full-time draw, having played out a 1-1 scoreline in their final group stage fixture. The positive thing for manager Hossam Hassan is that the Pharaohs remain unbeaten in the tournament after four matches.
Egypt have shown some attacking quality in Morocco, scoring three of their four matches so far. However, they have shown some defensive vulnerability that could be exploited by top teams, having failed to keep a clean sheet in two of those fixtures.
Ivory Coast News
Ivory Coast were in fine form in their round of 16 clash as they eased to a 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso. Amad Diallo and Yan Diomande were both on target in the first half, while Bazoumana Toure found the net after the break.
The Elephants looked like champions in that clash and seem to be improving as the tournament progresses. Emerse Fae's team remain unbeaten in the competition, claiming three wins from their four matches.
Goals are not a problem for the Ivory Coast, who have scored first in three of their four matches at the AFCON. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in two of their last three fixtures.
Head to Head
Egypt have seven wins while the Ivory Coast have picked up four victories, with as many draws in the last 15 matches. Both teams met in the round of 16 during the 2021 AFCON, with the North Africans winning in penalties after a 0-0 draw in normal time.
Verdict
Ivory Coast have grown in confidence throughout the competition and will fancy their chances of qualifying. They should progress ahead of Egypt, who have found things difficult in their last two matches.
Both teams have shown some attacking quality in the competition and could be backed to score here. Having grabbed the opening goal in three of their four matches, Ivory Coast are expected to strike first on Saturday.
