Trades and Free Agent Signings
For too many seasons, the Nuggets hadn’t been very active during the offseason, but they finally had to make some moves to help the Colorado team become more competitive in their quest for at least one more championship while Jokic is still in his prime.
The trades that triggered a wave of changes included the arrival of Cameron Johnson and the departure of Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets, as well as a swap between Dario Saric and Jonas Valanciunas.
In addition, the Nuggets landed two valuable free agent signings: Bruce Brown, a member of the championship-winning squad, and sharpshooter Tim Hardaway.
Veterans Russell Westbrook and DeAndre Jordan have left the team, making it clear that the goal is to bring more energy and freshness to the bench.
New Players’ Involvement
In an interview given a few days ago, Cameron Johnson said that he will finally have a chance to compete for an NBA championship alongside Jokic, Murray, Gordon, and the rest of the team. He added that he’s excited about it because he’s not even sure how many teams are truly in the race for that kind of recognition.
Valanciunas was reportedly targeted by several European clubs and could have easily ended up joining one of them, but he stated that he is fully committed to the Nuggets and expects great teamwork and a competitive spirit within the squad.
DaRon Holmes II may not be a completely new face, he was part of last year’s draft but sat out due to injury. However, his performance in the Summer League, with 19 points and 17 rebounds against the Clippers, is a strong indication that he could be a valuable addition to the rotation alongside Valanciunas and Jokic.
